Pilates values the quality of each movement over the quantity. The mind is as involved as the body by concentrating on proper breathing, creating smooth fluid movements and efficiently transitioning from one exercise to another to create an overall flow. The mindful movements of Pilates develop an individual’s body consciousness, spatial awareness, and physical efficiency. Conventional forms of exercise tend to make short, bulky muscles. Pilates on the contrary, develops a long lean musculature that is balanced, allowing for increased joint mobility. For this reason, it is an exercise method often used in rehabilitation and prevention of injuries.
